American Plumbing Heating and Solar, Inc.
Receives Sustainability Certification
Internationally Recognized Actively Green certification awarded to Vail, Colorado
Innovative Plumbing, Heating, and Solar business
Vail, CO, November 9, 2016: American Plumbing Heating and Solar, Inc. is pleased to announce it has earned the Actively Green 2017 eco-award certification from Sustainable Travel International and local organization, Walking Mountains Science Center. This certification demonstrates the APHS commitment to the environment and to sharing that commitment with clients and the Eagle Valley community. The company green team received its award during the ceremony on Wednesday, November 9th, 2016 at the Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail, CO.
The program was introduced to businesses in the Eagle County area in advance of the World Ski Championships in 2015. The internationally recognized program was developed with global nonprofit partner Sustainable Travel International as a means unite communities and use tourism to achieve the right balance between economic development, green growth, and protection of their natural and cultural assets.
The Actively Green Sustainable Business Certification Program is part of a larger movement to create a culture of sustainability throughout the Eagle Valley. Over 140 businesses have participated in the training with 51 businesses, including American Plumbing Heating and Solar, currently certified and many more actively working toward certification.
We Owe It To Our Children
APHS, founded by European-born Mustafa Aydin, says, “One direction that I have brought forth from my home is the introduction of water and energy saving products for the customers I service. I believe we owe it to our children and our planet to be as efficient as possible, and a plumber has a responsibility to help.”
Our quick certification was accomplished in large part because APHS had many of the programs already in place. For example, we already had bins set up in our shop to recycle pipe, cast iron and other metals. “Now we measure and log it. ” says Sam Kircher, one of the APHS green team members. A new, immediate energy saving project being undertaken by our firm is changing our shop and office lighting to LED. The energy assessment finds we can change our lighting and enjoy a payback by year three. We are satisfied with that rapid a return on our investment.
APHS encourages others to take advantage of the training and incentives through the Vail Valley Partnership and Eagle County. The sustainability program staff at Walking Mountains was instrumental in moving us along.
